HOW TO CREATE A VIRTUAL MACHINE

1. Connect to SGS8, open Hyper-V Manager, click on “New” in the top right corner and select “Virtual Machine…”

2. In the New Virtual Machine Wizard that opens, under the “Specify Name and Location” tab, enter the name of the virtual machine. Do not change the folder where the virtual machine will be stored.

3. In “Specify Generation”, select Generation 2.

4. In “Assign Memory”, enter the desired value, making sure it is a multiple of 8 (recommended values: 8192 MB or 16384 MB).

5. In “Configure Networking”, select “Microsoft Network Adapter Multiplexor Driver Virtual Switch” from the drop-down menu.

6. In “Connect Virtual Hard Disk”, leave the “Create a virtual hard disk” option selected and do not change the virtual hard disk name or the storage folder. The disk size can be modified as desired, but do not exaggerate.

7. In “Installation Options”, leave the “Install an operating system later” option selected. Click “Finish”.

8. Right-click on the newly created virtual machine, which will appear in the list, and select “Settings…”

9. In “Add Hardware”, leave “SCSI Controller” selected and click the “Add” button.

10. In the newly created SCSI Controller, select “DVD Drive” and click the “Add” button.

11. In the newly created DVD Drive, select “Location” number 1, click the “Image file” option and select the desired .iso file. Then click “Apply”.

12. In “Firmware”, under the “Boot order” section, set the boot sequence as follows:

1. Hard Drive

2. DVD Drive

3. Network Adapter

13. In “Security”, under the “Encryption Support” section, check the box “Enable Trusted Platform Module”.

14. In “Processor”, increase the number of virtual processors to at least 8. Click “OK”.

15. Right-click on the virtual machine, select “Connect…” and click the “Start” button in the center of the connection window that opens. Immediately after doing this, hold down the physical keyboard’s Enter key.

16. In the Windows 11 setup that appears, under “Select language settings”, keep “English (United States)” selected for both “Language to install” and “Time and currency format”.

17. In “Select keyboard settings”, select “Italian” from the drop-down menu.

18. In “Select setup option”, leave “Install Windows 11” selected and check the box “I agree everything will be deleted including files, apps and settings”.

19. In “Product key”, click “I don’t have a product key”.

20. In “Select Image”, choose “Windows 11 Pro for Workstations” from the scroll menu.

21. In “Applicable notices and licence terms”, click the “Accept” button.

22. In “Select location to install Windows 11”, click “Next”.

23. In “Ready to install”, click “Install”.

24. After installation completes, in “Is this the right country or region?”, select “Singapore” from the scroll menu and click “Yes”.

25. In “Is this the right keyboard layout or input method?”, select “Italian” from the scroll menu and click “Yes”.

26. In “Want to add a second keyboard layout?”, click “Skip”.

27. In “Let’s name your device”, re-enter the name you chose for the virtual machine in step 2 and click “Next”.

28. In “How would you like to set up this device?”, select “Set up for personal use” and click “Next”.

29. In “Unlock your free PC essentials”, click “Go to sign-in”.

30. In “Let’s add your Microsoft account”, do not sign in. Instead, press Shift+F10 on the physical keyboard to open cmd.exe, type “start ms-cxh:localonly” and press Enter.

31. In the Microsoft account window that appears, enter an easy-to-remember username and password, in case you need to complete domain joining later.

32. In “Choose privacy settings for your device”, select “No” for Location, Find my device, Diagnostic data, Inking & typing, Tailored experiences and click “Accept”.

HOW TO JOIN YOUR VIRTUAL MACHINE TO THE DOMAIN

33. Now that the VM is running and accessible, open Settings, go to System and then About. Under Device specifications, click on “Domain or workgroup” and in the System Properties window that opens, click the “Network ID” button under the Computer Name tab.

34. In “Select the option that describes your network”, leave the option “This computer is part of a business network; I use it to connect to other computers at work” selected and click “Next”.

35. In “Is your company network on a domain?”, leave the option “My company uses a network with a domain” selected and click “Next”.

36. In “You will need the following information”, click “Next”.

37. In “Type your username, password, and domain name for your domain account”, enter your username, password, and type “ITALY.ETERE.COM” as the domain name, then click “Next”.

38. In “Type the computer name and computer domain name”, leave the pre-set computer name and enter “ITALY.ETERE.COM” as the computer domain, then click “Next”.

39. In the Domain User Name and Password window that appears, re-enter the credentials used in step 37 and click “OK”.

40. In “Do you want to enable a domain user account on this computer?”, leave “Add the following domain user account” selected and re-enter the username and user domain, then click “Next”.

41. In “Choose an account type”, select “Administrator” and click “Next”.

42. In “You must restart your computer to apply these changes”, click “Finish”.

43. Once back in the System Properties window, click “OK”.

44. In “You must restart your computer to apply these changes”, click “Restart Now”.

HOW TO ENABLE REMOTE DESKTOP ACCESS TO YOUR VIRTUAL MACHINE

45. Log in with your user account, open Settings again, go to System, then Remote Desktop.

46. Enable Remote Desktop by turning the option to On. If the Remote Desktop Settings dialog appears, click “Confirm”.

47. Click on Remote Desktop Users and add the accounts of the technical support staff and developers; to do this, click the “Add…” button and type the desired name in the “Enter the object names to select” field of the Select Users or Groups window, then click “Check Names”. Once done, click “OK” to return to the previous window and then click “OK” again.
